Julia is a civil engineer (EIT) and a trained data scientist who holds two Master’s degrees in Environmental Engineering and Environmental/Forestry Science from the University of Washington. She has worked at NSD for four years and has five years of prior experience in water resources and aquatic restoration. At NSD, she specializes in analysis and design of aquatic habitat and floodplain restoration projects as well as holistic watershed-scale analyses linking hydrology, hydraulics, ecology, and geomorphology. She is experienced using HEC-RAS, Riverflow2D, SRH2D, VELMA, SMS, AutoCAD, GIS, R, and Python. Prior to graduate school, Julia worked as a grant writer and developer for American Rivers, where she raised money and support for a variety of river restoration and flood mitigation projects. She also spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Benin, West Africa, where she gained community outreach and project management experience.
