Sediment Transport Analysis and Design

Flowing water erodes and transports sediment in the form of sand, gravel, rocks and wood. Each of these elements can dramatically impact channel and land formation, habitat and ecosystem function. In rural and wildland areas, active sediment transport contributes to ecosystem diversity and channel migration patterns. In urban, agricultural and residential areas, sediment transport activity is often due to flooding and erosion and when left unchecked can destabilize banks that support public and private infrastructure. To facilitate an understanding of the river’s sediment transport capacity and critical opportunities for restoration and infrastructure protection, we routinely provide detailed hydrologic, 1-D and 2-D hydraulic modeling, and sediment transport analyses.
